Write with UJU
Want to write a book someday? Still longing to see your name in print?
Maybe you have a novel in progress, a stash of scribblings you’re trying to make sense of, or you want to reawaken the writer who’s been curled up inside you since you were a child. Maybe you just have a yearning that only ink on paper can satisfy.
This is your invitation to Write with UJU.
I’m a professionally acclaimed author and creative writing mentor with decades of storytelling experience and a passion for developing writers.
Let me help you find your voice and tell stories that matter.

Who We Are
Write with UJU is a creative writing studio and consultancy for developing writers. I work with writers at all stages who are looking for focus, clarity and encouragement.
We can work together on craft, mindset, platform-building and the most important element — showing up on the page to tell the stories only you can tell.
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
Maya Angelou
Telling your story can be painful too, at times. It can also be joyful, empowering and transformative. Getting your story out into the world can change a life — starting with your own.

Why ‘Write with UJU’?
Well, it’s my name (hello)! Uju means ‘abundance’ in Igbo, my Nigerian mother tongue. In Korean, the word uju means ‘space’, ‘cosmos’ or ‘universe’. I love synchronicities.
Writing with UJU is about writing with abundance: in other words, writing with a sense of ease and expansion. When we write like the universe is flowing through us and we have all the time in the world. There’s no feeling quite like it.

The thing is, I also know what it’s like to feel like your brain is stuffed with words but you can’t string a sentence together.
I can help you get unstuck, figure out what you’re really trying to say, and tell it in your own way.

Praise for Uju
“From the moment I picked up your book I couldn’t put it down. Honest, funny, practical and thought-provoking.”
Gretchen Rubin ~ New York Times bestselling author
“I am so grateful for Uju’s book Raising Boys Who Do Better. There is palpable love in it.”
Rob Delaney ~ actor, comedian & Sunday Times bestselling author
“Working with Uju feels like having a wise, supportive ally by your side on the writing journey. Combining deep insight with a supportive approach, her feedback is clear, practical and transformative – helping you sharpen your craft while staying true to your own voice.”
Chioma Okereke ~ multi-award nominated novelist
“Started reading your latest book and unsurprisingly, cried. You write from your heart to mine – your reader. Magic.”
Vicki Psarias-Broadbent ~ bestselling author & filmmaker
“I am a show writer and after reading my last episode once you had edited it, I couldn’t help but say this (which is something I have said to one of our line superiors about you): ‘You are brilliant!’ I covet your skill of perception, brevity and arrangement.”
Nelson P-A. ~ Screenwriter
“You make me feel like I really can “do it all” as they say! As a freelance journalist with my career on the upswing, I have fears that my work will have to take a backseat once children come around. You give me so much inspiration that a balanced life is totally possible!”
Mandy B. ~ Travel Writer
“I had no idea what to expect from a narrative nonfiction workshop but your session ended up being my favourite one of the whole festival!”
Sarah F. ~ London Festival of Writing
“I have a great appreciation for a work that owns up to the ways that families contribute to the broader culture of injustice. I am reminded of Mona Eltahawy’s Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls and Chimamanda Adichie’s Dear Ijeawele. Asika does for anti-racism what these other writers did for feminism.”
Ainehi Edoro ~ Brittle Paper magazine
“I had the honour and joy of taking part in the More than One Black Story panel event. We first heard from Uju Asika on intersectionality. Uju helped me see all elements of my identity – not just Black and woman, but also able bodied, middle class, neurodiverse. I wrote a poem a few years ago about some of my experiences and this event inspired me to write another poem.”
Lonpe A. ~ Marketing Executive
“Uju’s presentation started off with discussion around the power of storytelling and the power of utilising critical story questions amongst our peer groups and in the workplace. I know that this session had a powerful impact on everyone who attended and I cannot recommend Uju highly enough.”
Liz M. ~ Surrey County Council
“I loved the book Bringing Up Race by Uju Asika. A bible on how to help guide children into becoming decent human beings for the future. It’s accessible, well researched and written beautifully. Uju thank you so much for writing this, I feel I will be a better parent for reading it.”
Helen Lister ~ The MotherLoad Book Club
“I’ve read a silly amount of anti-racism books trying to make sense of this world and Bringing Up Race was the difference from a self-help guide style to something more like bell hooks, Audre Lorde, or James Baldwin. Beautiful writing with lots of personal stories.”
Kate Paiano ~ Tiny Travels
“Dear Uju, today I accidentally found your book Bringing Up Race and absolutely fell in love with it. I have never written an author before, but I am absolutely astonished by your book! I am not even a parent, but it is my most favourite book from this day.”
Annie Z. ~ reader from Poland
“Thanks so much for being such a brilliant and generous panelist. It was an incredible day, made so by all the inspiring women involved.”
Sam & Anna, co-directors ~ Forthwrite Festival
“Thank you so much for taking the time, the talk was fantastic and you have such a gift with storytelling!”
Hilary A. ~ Planning & Projects Officer
“Thank you for your time and input throughout the judging process and also for the thoughtful contributions which were shared during the judging meeting. We really appreciate your work as a panel host at the Wainwright Prize ceremony too.”
Katie Beaumont ~ Wainwright Prize 2025
